DEFENCE OF REPRESENTATIVE INSTITUTIONS IN PERU

Resolution adopted without a vote by the 87th Inter-Parliamentary Conference
(Yaoundé, 11 April 1992)

The 87th Inter-Parliamentary Conference,

Considering that one of the main aims of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which brings together parliamentarians from 115 countries, is "the firm establishment of representative institutions",

Considering that on 5 April, the Parliament of Peru was dissolved in breach of the constitution and institutions of that country,

1. Denounces the dissolution of the Parliament of the Republic of Peru;
   
2. Demands the immediate re-establishment of the parliamentary institution in Peru;
   
3. Urges all Parliaments and their members to take resolute and swift action to ensure the re-establishment of democracy in Peru.
