While hundreds of members of parliament from around the world were attending the 114th IPU Assembly in Nairobi, famine and malnutrition were causing tremendous suffering in drought-affected North-Eastern Kenya and bordering countries. | Parliamentarians organize against HIV/AIDS during major UN meeting |
A Parliamentary Caucus took place to review parliamentary action against the HIV/AIDS pandemic, against the backdrop of the High-level meeting of the United Nations on HIV/AIDS earlier this month in New York. Learning lessons from the past, setting standards for the future |
At the initiative of the IPU, three new guides for democratic standards in the political sphere have recently been made available to the parliamentary community worldwide. As part of an integrated approach to standard-setting, these guides are designed to serve as effective tools for focusing attention on shared democratic objectives.
