Purpose of elections:

  Elections were held for 10 members of Congress on the normal expiry of their term of office.


Background and outcome of elections:

  There are currently no political parties in Micronesia, political activity tending to centre on regional (state) aliments.

In early May, incumbent President of the Republic Bailey Olter was re-elected unopposed by the newly elected Congress. Also re-elected was Vice-President Jacob Nena.
