Mandate Mandate: 5 years. The Committee is responsible for questions related to: Constitution, electoral laws, other laws, justice, rules of procedure of the Senate, promotion and protection of democracy, human rights and public liberties, good governance, security of persons and of property.
Membership 20 members, 5 of whom form the Bureau. Means of selection of members: Election.
Working methods Cases are proposed by the Government, and the parliament includes them on the agenda; they are adopted by the Conference of Chairpersons.
Relations with other parliamentary bodies Relations with other parliamentary bodies and with outside bodies are maintained through the Bureau of the National Assembly. The body is authorized to carry out inquiries and hearings. Decisions are taken in plenary, public meetings.
Relations with external bodies Relations with the Government are conducted through the treatment of cases submitted to the National Assembly that fall within the Committee's competence.
Subjects dealt with This Committee deals inter alia with peace, decentralization, urban planning, human rights and territorial administration.
