IPU CONDEMNS KILLING OF IRAQI MP

The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is appalled at the killing of Mr. Saleh al-Ogaili, a member of parliament in Iraq. According to the police, Mr. al-Ogaili was killed when a bomb placed on a motorcycle exploded as a convoy carrying him drove past it in Sadr City.

The IPU expresses its condolences to the family of Mr. al-Ogaili, to the Parliament of Iraq and to the Iraqi people. It calls on the authorities to make every effort to identify and bring to justice those responsible for the killing.

Established in 1889 and with its Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, the IPU, the oldest multilateral political organisation, currently brings together 153 affiliated parliaments and eight regional assemblies as associate members. The world organisation of parliaments has an Office in New York, which acts as its Permanent Observer at the United Nations.
