THE IPU CONDEMNS THE MURDER OF AFGHAN MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT MR. MOHAMMAD ISLAM MOHAMMADI
The Inter-Parliamentary Union condemns the killing of Mr. Mohammad Islam Mohammadi, member of the National Assembly of Afghanistan. "The murder of an elected representative is particularly despicable in that it deprives the people of a parliamentarian who can promote their human rights and fundamental freedoms", said the IPU President, Mr. Pier Ferdinando Casini.
"We send our condolences to the Afghan Parliament and to Mr. Mohammadi's family", added the IPU President.
Established in 1889 and with its Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, the IPU, the oldest multilateral political organisation, currently brings together 148 affiliated parliaments and seven regional assemblies as associate members. The world organisation of parliaments has an Office in New York, which acts as its Permanent Observer at the United Nations.
