THE INTER-PARLIAMENTARY UNION IS PRESENT
AT THE FRANKFURT BOOK FAIR

The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) will be present at the Frankfurt Book Fair, the largest event for publishers and editors which is to be held from 7 to 12 October.

The IPU will share a stand with the United Nations (a co-operation agreement between the IPU and the UN has been signed in 1996) to present its most recent publications concerning various aspects of its work in the fields of democracy, representative institutions and elections:

  • Democracy: its principles and achievement: (ISBN 92-9142-036-0) this book gathers opinions and thoughts from personalities representative of the different geopolitical currents on the principles and achievements of democracy. It also contains the text of the Universal Declaration on Democracy adopted by the IPU in September 1997. Available in English, French and Spanish. SF 30.-
  • Codes of Conduct for Elections: (ISBN 92-9142-039-5) this book provides a comprehensive review of practical problems and solutions relating to the financing of elections, media coverage, election observation, campaign practices and the institutionalisation of the electoral process.   • Free and Fair Elections: International Law and Practice: (ISBN 92-9142-000-X) this books seeks to establish the content of the rules and standards of international law pertaining to free and fair elections, with special attention to State practice.   • Presiding Officers of National Parliamentary Assemblies: (ISBN 92-9142-028-X) this book aims to define the status of presiding officers and their functions before attempting to determine their place and role in the institutions. Available in English, French and Spanish. SF 30.-
  • Chronicle of Parliamentary Elections: (ISBN 92-9142-042-5) this book contains separate chapters on national legislative elections, information on the electoral system, the background and outcome of the elections, and statistics on the results of the poll and the new members of parliament. The Inter-Parliamentary Union is the world-wide organisation of parliaments and focal point for world-wide parliamentary dialogue. It works for peace and co-operation among peoples and for the firm establishment of representative democracy.
