IPU CONDEMNS ATTACK AGAINST THE PARLIAMENT OF INDIA
The Inter-Parliamentary Union - the world organisation of national parliaments – has condemned the attack that took place yesterday against the Parliament of India.
In a statement issued in Geneva, the President of the IPU Council, Dr. N. Heptulla, who is also Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha of India, and the Organisation's Secretary General, Mr. A.B. Johnsson, expressed consternation at the armed attack on the Indian Parliament which resulted in the death of several security guards and left many wounded.
The IPU expressed its condolences to the Parliament, Government and people of India.
The IPU is composed of 142 national parliaments and counts 5 parliamentary assemblies as Associate Members. It promotes peaceful resolution of conflicts through dialogue and negotiations and works to strengthen democracy and parliamentary institutions worldwide.
