THE IPU CONDEMNS THE MILITARY COUP D'ETAT IN THAILAND

The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) condemns the recent military coup d'état in Thailand. The world organization of parliaments considers that any process which seeks to overturn a government by unconstitutional and undemocratic means is unacceptable.

The IPU calls for the restoration of constitutional order in Thailand and an immediate return to democratic rule built upon the foundation of an elected parliament.

Established in 1889 and with its Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, the IPU, the oldest multilateral political organisation, currently brings together 146 affiliated parliaments and seven regional assemblies as associate members. The world organisation of parliaments has an Office in New York, which acts as its Permanent Observer at the United Nations.
