IPU DEEPLY CONCERNED AT SITUATION IN BOLIVIA

The President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Mr. Pier Ferdinando Casini, expressed deep concern at the situation in Bolivia and condemned the acts of violence that have occurred in the country. He stressed the need to respect and preserve the democratically elected authorities, representatives and institutions and called on all political and other actors of society involved to cease the violence and renew dialogue in order to ensure full respect for the rule of law, democratic institutions and the territorial integrity of the country.


Established in 1889 and with its Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, the IPU, the oldest multilateral political organisation, currently brings together 150 affiliated parliaments and eight regional assemblies as associate members. The world organisation of parliaments has an Office in New York, which acts as its Permanent Observer at the United Nations.
