Briefing in New York In conjunction with the 2008 High-level Review Meeting of the General Assembly on HIV/AIDS (10-11 June), the IPU held a parliamentary briefing to help highlight some of the critical issues being discussed at the UN event while also providing parliamentarians with an opportunity to caucus among themselves. The briefing took place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on 9 June 2008, from 3 to 6 p.m., in ECOSOC Chamber.

The briefing was organized in close cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and builds on a resolution of the General Assembly (A/Res/62/178) which expressly encourages Member States to include parliamentarians in their national delegations to the high-level meeting. The parliamentary briefing provided another building block in the work of the IPU Advisory Group on HIV/AIDS.
