Parliamentary Forum on the occasion of the UNITED NATIONS INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON FINANCING FOR DEVELOPMENT Mexico City, Mexico, 16 March 2002

	The United Nations organised the International Conference on Financing for Development in Monterrey, Mexico, from 18 to 22 March 2002. The Inter-Parliamentary Union took a keen interest in this important event and provided support to it by encouraging parliaments to take an active part in its preparation and organising debates on some of the themes relating to the Conference. As these dates of the Conference in Monterrey coincided with the 107th IPU Conference in Marrakech, the Union's governing bodies reluctantly had to refrain from organising a parliamentary meeting in parallel to the inter-governmental Conference in Monterrey. However, they were pleased to note that the Mexican Parliament intended to hold a parliamentary meeting on the eve of the Monterrey Conference. The one-day Parliamentary Forum took place in Mexico City on 16 March 2002 on the premises of the Mexican Senate and was be open to all members of parliament who are travelling to Monterrey to attend the international Conference.
