2017 South Asian Speakers’ Summit on
Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals
Strengthening regional cooperation and resources for the SDGs

Organized by the Parliament of India and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the 2017 South Asian Speakers’ Summit on Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals will identify specific actions that will advance the integration of the SDGs in the region. As a follow up to the conclusions of the South Asian Speakers’ Summit held in Dhaka in 2016, the seminar will aim to further define the opportunities and challenges that parliaments in South Asia face in making their contribution to the implementation of the SDGs. The Summit agenda will be approached from a gender perspective, as inequality between men and women is one of the greatest impediments to sustainable development. Discussions will also focus on the impactof climate change on economic and social development in the region. The Summit will allow participants to share experiences, assess progress. Those attending will also discuss what more they can do to strengthen cooperation among parliaments in an effort to address today's most pressing challenges.
