This seminar is organized jointly by the Senate of the Philippines, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, in collaboration with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

As part of a series of regional events aimed at strengthening the contribution of parliaments to the work of the Human Rights Council, the seminar also aims to inform participants of how the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) works and to involve them in and sensitize them to the importance of this mechanism in assessing the human rights situation in countries.

The objective of the seminar is to identify good parliamentary practice in working with the Human Rights Council and promote and protect human rights in general by initiating an effective and continuous dialogue with other stakeholders such as national human rights institutions and civil society actors.
