The All Africa Parliamentary Conference on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), will be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 22 to 24 May 2012. The conference is organized by the United Nations and with formal sponsoring by the IPU.
The Conference will bring together members of parliament from the African continent with a demonstrated commitment to the MDGs. A select group of civil society representatives and academics will also participate to help foster multi-stakeholder engagement.
The purpose of the conference is threefold:
- Take stock of progress on the MDGs made so far by African countries in the context of the changing global political and economic environment;
- Identify gaps and constraints, and suggest ways to accelerate progress;
- Develop strategies for strengthening parliamentary engagement, including through stronger parliament-civil society relationships, to help accelerate progress towards the MDGs and formulate a post-2015 development agenda.
