Senado de la Republica PARLIAMENTARY BRIEFING
AT THE XVII INTERNATIONAL AIDS CONFERENCE

The XVII International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2008) was held in Mexico City, Mexico, from 3-8 August 2008. This event takes place every two years and is the largest regular conference on any health or development issue.

The IPU, in cooperation with the Senate of Mexico, has hold a briefing for the parliamentarians attending the Conference on Tuesday, 5 August 2008, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the El Mesón del Caballo Bayo restaurant. The briefing took the form of a luncheon with Parliamentary Leadership in the Response to the HIV/AIDS Epidemic as the theme. It served as a forum for an exchange of views on issues that parliamentarians face while performing their legislative, budgetary, oversight and advocacy functions in connection with HIV/AIDS.
