Seminar for African parliaments
TRANSLATING INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS COMMITMENTS INTO NATIONAL REALITIES:
THE CONTRIBUTION OF PARLIAMENTS TO THE WORK OF THE UNITED NATIONS HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL
29-30 September 2014, Rabat (Morocco)

The seminar is being organized jointly by the Parliament of the Kingdom of Morocco, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, in partnership with the Inter-ministerial delegation for human rights and the National Council of Human Rights of Morocco. The seminar will be held at the Parliament of Morocco on 29 and 30 September 2014.

As part of a series of regional events aimed at strengthening the contribution of parliaments to the work of the Human Rights Council, the seminar also aims to inform participants of how the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) works and to involve them in and sensitize them to the importance of this mechanism. The objective of the seminar is to identify good parliamentary practice in working with the Human Rights Council and promote and protect human rights in general by initiating an effective and continuous dialogue with other stakeholders such as national human rights institutions and civil society actors.

The proceedings will be conducted in Arabic, English and French.
