The Third Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations will be taking place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on 27-29 May 2010, under the theme Bridging Cultures, Building Peace. The IPU is encouraging interested members of Parliament to join their national delegations and participate actively throughout this major international event.
In the framework of the Rio Forum, IPU and the Parliament of Brazil will be holding a parliamentary meeting in the afternoon of 27 May 2010, which all participating legislators are invited to attend. The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss and identify joint actions to improve relations across cultures, combat prejudice against certain religious and cultural communities, and help build lasting peace. It will also provide an opportunity to review progress in implementing the findings and recommendations of the resolution on Ensuring respect for and peaceful coexistence between all religious communities and beliefs in a globalized world, adopted by the 116th IPU Assembly in May 2007.
On 28 May 2010, IPU will also be hosting one of the main Forum working sessions on Democracy, good governance and cultural diversity. More information about the Rio Forum is available on the website of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations.
Delegates are invited to confirm their participation in the parliamentary meeting to the IPU Office to the United Nations in New York, using the registration form that was circulated together with the invitation letter.
