The Committee reviews, approves and amends all proposed legislation related to economic and financial issues. All policies are discussed with members of the cabinet economic team. |
| Membership |
The Committee is composed of 11 members of the Senate elected by the entire Senate. The Committee members then select its Rapporteur. |
| Working methods |
Items on the agenda are either referred by the President of the Senate or by the Rapporteur of the Committee on policy issues. The Committee is empowered to invite government officials, listen to and discuss their policy and legislation proposals. |
| Relations with other parliamentary bodies |
Reports of the Committee are submitted to the President of the Senate who, in turn, places them on the agenda of the Senate meetings. It is not unusual to form a joint committee with other Senate Committees if the issue warrants such action. |
| Relations with external bodies |
In a few cases, the Committee members attend major intergovernmental negotiations forums as part of official delegations. However, members of government and civil society are often invited to present their views on issues on the Committee's agenda. |

The following subjects have been dealt with by the Committee: government budget, economic policy, energy policy and pricing strategies, and monetary policy issues. |
