Mandate |
The Committee is responsible inter alia for the ratification of international trade agreements, national trade policy guidelines and the preparation of relevant legislative and budgetary proposals. For the purpose of better informing its members, the Committee organizes hearings with negotiators and experts about important issues such as WTO accession. |
Membership |
The Committee has six members. They are nominated for a four-year term. |
Working methods |
Items are selected in accordance with the Rules of Procedures as they arise. Committee sessions are closed to the public. The Committee may organize hearings or invite government officials to its sessions. Decisions are taken by majority vote. The Committee does not issue any public report. |
Relations with other parliamentary bodies |
The Committee cooperates with the lower chamber Committee and sends reports to the plenary sessions. |
Relations with external bodies |
The Committee cooperates with the Ministry for Foreign Trade and Economic Relations. Usually, Committee members do not attend WTO Ministerial Conferences or intergovernmental negotiations. |
Subjects dealt with |
The Committee has recently discussed free trade agreements with neighboring countries and their impact on the national economy. |
