Mandate The mandate of the Committee includes consideration of outcomes of multilateral negotiations, ratification of texts of international agreements, passing of relevant legislation and approval of budgetary proposals.
Membership The Committee is composed of 25 members who serve a four-year term. Their appointment is based on the strength of their respective political parties in Parliament.
Working methods The agenda of the Committee depends on the incoming bills on trade, industry and tourism and the petitions from industrial players on issues affecting industry, such as tariffs, policy directives, etc. Proceedings are always public.
Relations with other parliamentary bodies Joint meetings are held with relevant standing committees if the issue is cross-cutting. Frequent joint meetings are held with the Finance Committee and the Foreign Affairs Committee.
Relations with external bodies The Committee regularly requests attendance by government officials and enjoys the support (funding, information, etc.) of civil society. Members of the committee attend international conferences as part of official delegations.
Subjects dealt with The Committee has recently dealt with the following issues: the decline of local industry in rice and poultry, the impact of tariffs on local industry and domestic pricing, the World Trade Organization agreements and their impact on local industry.
