| Mandate |
The mandate of the Committee consists of approving international texts, such as treaties and agreements concerning international trade, overseeing Government action in the field of international trade, mostly by the way of hearings. |
| Membership |
The Committee is composed of 22 members. Their term of office lasts four years. They are proportionally selected by the different political groups represented in parliament. Members of the Committee are elected by vote by the plenary session. |
| Working methods |
The agenda is proposed by the Chairperson - taking the agenda of the plenary sessions into consideration - and approved by the Committee. Hearings are regularly organized and open to public with the exception of secret services. The decisions are taken by simple majority and implementation is ensured by the law and the Constitution. |
| Relations with other parliamentary bodies |
The chairpersons of the standing committees hold regular meetings once a week in order to coordinate and discuss common issues. |
| Relations with external bodies |
Regular contact is kept with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the areas of information sharing, coordination, cooperation, etc. Representatives of civil society are allowed to attend the Committee meetings as observers. It is not customary for members of the Committee to attend major inter-governmental negotiations forums. |
| Subjects dealt with |
The following subjects have been dealt with recently: examination of EU plans on a bi-annual basis, the situation of Hungarian minorities living abroad, NATO, and hearings of ambassadors accredited in Hungary. |
