Study Group on AIDS

Date of creation The Study Group was approved by the Bureau of the National Assembly at the beginning of the Legislature (July 1997, and then again in July 2002).

Mandate The Study Group is subject to a special agreement with the Bureau of the National Assembly, whose Standing Orders do not permit the formation of specific local or professional interest groups. The Study Group may hold hearings with politicians, leading scientists or association heads on the subject of HIV/AIDS. It may also attend meetings, join initiatives and gather information. Its members may attend national and international conferences if they so desire.
Membership Membership of the Study Group is open to all interested MPs and may take place at any moment by way of a voluntary request to become a member.
Working methods The Group is free to orgnize its work informally. It meets at the premises of the National Assembly and its meetings are not public. The Group may produce a record of its meetings for internal distribution to its members. The Group may also produce and circulate on a wider basis other documents to all MPs as well as associations and scientists. The Study Group produces a quarterly document entitled "The letter on AIDS ", which is circulated to all MPs as well as associations involved in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Relations with external bodies The Group is in regular contact with the heads of associations involved in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
Subjects dealt with It regularly discusses the epidemic, resources mobilized worldwide, access to treatment and programmes of prevention. The situation of researchers in France The UNITAID project AIDS, a great national cause 2005 (screening, women and HIV, migrants, discrimination, AIDS and drugs , AIDS and sexuality) Research Precarious conditions (HIV and the sex profession, drugs, prison), etc.
