The Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Sahel and West Africa Club/Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (SWAC-OECD), in collaboration with the ECOWAS Parliament, will jointly organize a regional seminar on Joining the initiatives and experiences of national parliaments for an effective campaign against child trafficking and labour in Abuja, Nigeria, from 12 to 14 June 2012.
The last in a series of activities under the joint IPU-SWAC project on parliament's contribution to efforts to combat child trafficking and labour, this meeting seeks to share national experiences in line with Cotonou Declaration and explore ways to help effectively address child trafficking and labour at the regional level. Given the magnitude of these problems that affect many West and Central African countries, it is imperative to provide a regional response through harmonized and common measures, which in turn should give rise to even more effective strategies.
Parliamentarians from the ECOWAS Parliament, ECOWAS member countries, the Inter-Parliamentary Committee of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU), the Economic and Monetary Community of Central African States, experts from ECOWAS and the WAEMU Commission, representatives of international organizations (UNICEF, ILO, IOM and UNDP), and civil society will take part in this seminar.
