The XVIII International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2010) will be held in Vienna, Austria, from 18-23 July 2010. This event takes place every two years and is the largest regular conference on any health or development issue. The IPU and the Parliament of Austria will be holding a parliamentary meeting on the occasion of the XVIII International AIDS Conference. The theme of the parliamentary event will be Legislative aspects of HIV relating to key affected populations.
The Parliamentary Meeting will take place on Tuesday, 20 July 2010, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
in the Parliament Building in Vienna.
The parliamentary meeting will be divided into two sessions. In the morning session, the participants will focus on how to strike a balance between criminal law and public health in the field of HIV/AIDS so that both can function as effectively as possible. The afternoon session will be dedicated to human rights concerns associated with interventions to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV, and will seek to identify ways to expand treatment programmes for women living with HIV. Interpretation will be provided in English, French, German and Russian.
Important notice: The IPU and the Parliament of Austria are not in a position to facilitate accreditation to the XVIII International AIDS Conference, provide Schengen visa support for entry into Austria or hotel accommodation in Vienna. These matters should be dealt with by each delegation individually, as part of the overall accreditation procedure for the XVIII International AIDS Conference.
