12 September 2005. Jointly convened by IPU, UNAIDS and UNDP, a lunchtime discussion was held in New York on 12 September on "The role of parliamentarians in national policy and the AIDS response". Three prominent parliamentarians spoke: Philippines Senate President Franklin M. Drilon, the Chairman of South Africa's National Council of the Provinces, Mninwa Johannes Mahlangu, and the Vice-President of the Chamber of Deputies of Brazil, José Thomaz Nonô.
