On 24 October 2013, two royal decrees were issued: one dissolving the 60-member Senate, which had been appointed in October 2011, effective 25 October 2013; and the other appointing the new 75-member Senate. The latter comprised nine women, up from seven. Mr. Abdur-Rauf Rawabdeh was appointed President of the Senate.
