The Committee's remit is "to consider economic affairs". It reports to the House of Lords with recommendations for government action. It produces reports on a range of economic subjects including monetary and fiscal policy and globalization (including international trade issues). |

The Committee has 13 members who are nominated for each parliamentary session. |
Working methods |
The Committee issues a public report on each inquiry it undertakes. It can summon witnesses, including government officials, to give evidence. Almost all evidence, written and oral, is published. |

Relations with external bodies |
The Committee takes evidence in virtually all its inquiries into government departments, especially from the Treasury. Depending on the nature of the inquiry, it may also take evidence from representatives of civil society, the private sector and the academic community. |
