Prime Minister Keith Mitchell's New National Party (NNP) won all 15 seats in the House of Representatives for the second consecutive elections, keeping the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) led by former Prime Minister Tillman Thomas out of parliament. Seven women were elected (46.67%), up from two (13.33%) in 2013.
During the election campaign, the NNP ran on the government's record, citing job creation and economic growth. Mr. Mitchell, who was sworn in for a fifth term as Prime Minister on 16 March, pledged to govern "for greater efficiency and sensitivity, and curbing wastage and corruption in government services." |
