Membership The Gender Equality and Family Committee has 16 members. Standing committee members are appointed and replaced at the request of the representative National Assembly members of each negotiation group, in proportion to the number of National Assembly members belonging to each negotiation group. They are entitled to serve for two years. Composition by sex: 3 men (19%), 13 women (81%).

Subjects dealt with Due to the efforts of the Gender Equality and Family Committee, as well as women across Korea, the 'hoju' (head of family) system, one of the main features of patriarchal society, was abolished in March 2005. In 2005, in line with the reorganization and expansion of the Ministry of Gender Equality into the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, the Gender Equality and Family Committee was given greater responsibility for overseeing legislation and policies on family affairs and the protection of the rights of women.
