Please see chapter III of the Standing Orders of the Folketing which contains rules about the working methods of the Standing Committees of the Folketing. The committees do issue public reports about the bills and other proposals which are submitted to the committees and can also issue public reports on its activities at large. |
Relations with other parliamentary bodies |
The interaction and information-sharing can take many forms. The committees can for instance institute joint hearings. On such occasions, experts and others can make committee Members share their knowledge about a subject which is of interest to the committee and give their points of view. Moreover most Danish MPs are members of several standing committees. |
Relations with external bodies |
After the first reading of a Bill in the Chamber, the Bill is referred to a committee. The 25 standing committees read approximately 300 Bills and 100 proposals for parliamentary resolution a year. The committee examines the proposals and subsequently the Committee Members are free to put questions. They put their questions to a Minister, normally to the one dealing with the sphere of competence of the committee. The questions are put in writing. The committees may also ask a Minister to appear in the committees in order to answer questions, "consultations". Likewise, the committees can institute hearings. On such occasion, experts and others can make committee Members share their knowledge about a subject which is of interest to the committee and give their points of view. Hearings are usually public. Other committee meetings are closed but the press is often briefed subsequent to the meetings. |
Subjects dealt with |
The Legal Affairs Committee has for instance recently issued reports about a bill about changes in the Administration of Justice Act intended to strengthen the efforts against gang related crime and change in the Danish Penal Code intended to implement into Danish law a Council of Europe Convention on the protection of children against sexual exploitation and sexual abuse, etc. |
