The Committee was created by a decision of the National Assembly dated February 9, 2006 by unanimous vote. |

Mandate |
The Committee is allowed to do all the above mentioned and give advice on these issues to the government.
It is its priority to propose changes in the quotum system (to have more women in higher positions of government) and to help strengthen a healthy family life.

9 members elected on the basis of political party affiliation for a full parliamentary term.

Working methods |
The Committee started with hearings of non governmental and governmental organizations responsible for gender and child issues.
The hearings are not public but information is disseminated through the website of the parliament (www.dna.sr).
Decisions are taken by the majority of the votes. Within the Committee, subcommittees will be established which will report to the plenary Committee regarding specific issues.
Like all other committees in parliament the administrative support is provided by the parliament, even so the budget.
There are no challenges.

The Committee invites other parliamentary bodies for a special meeting, if necessary.
The Committee is independent and is not a subcommittee.

Relations with external bodies |
The Committee meets with government and other organizations on request of another committee or relevant organization.
All women members of the National Assembly are special members of a NGO body named Women Parliamentary Forum.

The current topical issues are:
- Equal access of men and women in politics;
<br>- Explore the quotum system in political parties and in the administrative system;
<br>- Gender budgeting;
<br>- Changes in legislation which are discriminatory to women;
<br>- Prevent suicide;
<br>- Education in the hinterland;
<br>- Stop violence against women
