| Mandate |
The Committee advises the Government on women's and children's issues and assists the Government in fulfilling the obligations to the Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). It debates issues relating to women and children and the eradication of violence against women and supports national and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs and INGOs) and other agencies in working towards the common goal of empowering women and uplifting their position in the society. The Committee reviews and monitors existing legislation and any other matters relating to women and children. |

The members of the committee are elected from amongst the elected representatives in the National Assembly.
Composition by sex: 4 men (80%), 1 woman (20%).

| Working methods |
The Chairperson of the Committee shall fix the sittings of the Committee as and when necessary. In general, the sittings/hearings are public but depending on their nature, they may sometimes be in camera. The Committee resolves issues by consensus or, if a consensus cannot be reached, by a majority vote. The Committee has the power to hear persons (except ministers) or request papers and records that are necessary for its deliberations. The House may, on a motion made, specify the time for the presentation of a Committee report. The Committee may submit a special report on any matter it deems appropriate and, in the course of its work, consider whether it is necessary to bring it to the attention of the Speaker of the House.
Functioning:
The National Assembly Secretariat provides support services and the budget.

| Relations with other parliamentary bodies |
All committees work in close coordination with each other. At the moment, contact with other parliamentary bodies is minimal.. |
| Relations with external bodies |
When necessary, the Committee may contact the local government and other relevant government and private agencies or individuals. Since the Committee has just been established, nothing much has been done. However, the Committee will advise the government on issues concerning women and children. The Committee also hopes to work in close coordination with other government agencies in addressing women's and children's issues. |
| Subjects dealt with |
Given its recent creation, the Committee has not dealt with any specific issues. The Committee is conducting research on the difficulties women and children face in the country and, once these have been determined, the Committee will deal with them. |
