Mandate Protection of the rights of Croatian defenders/veterans of the country's Homeland War and members of their families, protection of military and civilian persons disabled as a result of wartime operations during the Homeland War and during the Second World War, protection of the victims of totalitarian regimes, etc. Examination of complaints from individuals, examination of draft legislation submitted by the Government of the Republic, preparation of legislative proposals and amendments and similar activities.
Membership The Committee has 13 members (Chair, Deputy Chair and 11 members). Their term corresponds to the term of the current Parliament (not more than four years). Membership may change during a given term of office.
Working methods The agenda is proposed by the Committee Chair. Items are generally selected and placed on the agenda taking account of their relevance to the Committee's mandate (see response under 6.) Reports on deliberations during sessions are submitted to the Speaker of the Parliament. Topical sessions of the Committee may be convened to deal with current, pressing issues, while the relevant executive authority (the government, various ministries, etc.) is notified of their conclusions. Representatives of the executive authorities and citizens' associations may participate in sessions.
Relations with other parliamentary bodies The Committee may if it sees fit hold a joint session with one or more other committees.
Relations with external bodies The Committee actively co-operates with the Government of Croatia and its ministries. It may receive complaints and petitions from non-governmental organisations and associations, and may invite them to attend sessions of the Committee.
Subjects dealt with Implementation of the Croatian Homeland War Veterans Rights Act, resolution of any related problems, legislative proposals within the Committee's mandate (see response under 6.).
