| Mandate |
The Committee examines issues related to diagnosis of HIV/AIDS, the treatment and monitoring of patients, sexual and reproductive health and epidemiological safety (Epidemiological Safety Law, Sexual and Reproductive Health Law). |
| Membership |
The Subcommittee is composed of 22 members representing all the political parties. They are elected to the Saeima for a four-year term. |
| Working methods |
Subcommittee meetings are public and are held once a week. The Subcommittee reviews issues initiated by natural and legal entities, MPs, as well as issues or bills l referred to the Committee. |
| Relations with other parliamentary bodies |
The decisions and proposals of the Subcommittee are submitted for review to the Committee, which either approves or rejects them. |
| Relations with external bodies |
The Subcommittee communicates with relevant ministries and other public institutions through the Committee. In solving specific matters, it also cooperates with the Ministry of Health, non-governmental organizations, and the Ombudsman. |
| Subjects dealt with |
Topical issues include approving the national policy on preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS and facilitating the initiative of the Dialogs and Agiha NGOs to provide medicine to HIV/AIDS patients. |
