The Committee's mandate comprises scrutiny of government decisions in the field of human rights and minorities, equal opportunities and status of women; examination of petitions, the preparation of legislative proposals, and cooperation with other relevant institutions and NGOs. |

The Committee is composed of 11 MPs of whom 2 are women, 6 are from the governing parties, 2 from the opposition, 3 without party affiliation. |
| Working methods |
The items on the Committee's agenda are determined by decisions of the Speaker, decisions of the Chair and of the Committee, requests from Government, NGOs, and the public. All documents are public. Committee decisions must be taken into consideration by concerned members of the government. |

There is regular cooperation with other parliamentary committees. |
| Relations with external bodies |
There is a close working relationship with offices of the government, and in particular with the office of the Vice-Prime Minister responsible for human rights, with the office of Ombudsman and with NGOs. |

Minority rights, Roma population, free access to information, personal data protection, the Ombudsman's responsibilities, equal opportunities, the status of women. Antidiscrimination, forced evictions, language rights, social rights, combating racism, domestic violence, equal opportunities. |
