Young MPs The IPU Global Conference
of Young Parliamentarians

Lusaka (Zambia), 16 and 17 March 2016

Session posterThe third edition of the IPU’s Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians will take place on 16 and 17 March 2016, in Mulungushi International Conference Centre (MICC) in Lusaka, Zambia, just before the 134th Assembly of the IPU (19-23 March 2016, also in Lusaka).

It will offer a golden opportunity for parliaments to involve their youngest members in international parliamentary affairs. The Conference will be jointly organized by the IPU and the National Assembly of Zambia. Its theme will be Agenda 2030: Youth leading the way, leaving no one behind.

In 2015, the international community made tremendous strides in planning for a better future: it adopted the Sustainable Development Goals that aim to ensure citizen-oriented development and commit to leaving no one behind. Young people have a huge stake in these efforts. When the post-2015 development agenda is completed in 2030, it is today’s youth and future generations who will face the consequences of its success or failure. Young parliamentarians, as representatives of the people and political decision-makers, are uniquely placed to lead the way in delivering on the promise of fair, equitable and sustainable development.

The Conference will focus on groups of society that are in danger of being left out of the development agenda as well as on key thematic issues such as climate change and more equitable economic models. In doing so, the Conference will help young parliamentarians to play a leading role in ensuring that development commitments become a reality for all. The Conference will serve as a rallying call that will urge young parliamentarians to unite and take ownership of their future. For it is the work carried out today that will shape the world of 2030; and it is today’s youth and future generations that will have to live in that world.

The Conference in Lusaka is open to young men and women members of national parliaments as well IPU observers and selected youth organizations, networks and associations.
