Consultancy work opportunities
IPU provides technical assistance to parliaments in developing countries to enable them to perform their legislative, oversight and representational functions more efficiently. Such assistance includes advisory and consultancy services on the role and working methods of parliaments, including parliamentary procedure and practice, as well as capacity-building, for parliamentarians and parliamentary staff.
For this purpose, IPU maintains a roster of suitably qualified and experienced experts who are generally parliamentarians and parliamentary staff (serving or retired). These experts are taken mainly, but not exclusively, from the parliamentary community through IPU's network of member parliaments.
Candidates are required to meet the following minimum qualifications:
- A university degree (or equivalent) in political science or social science/public administration/governance and development-related studies, economics, international relations, etc.
- At least 5 years of experience working in a parliamentary setting (as an MP or parliamentary staff)
- Previous parliament-related consultancy work
- Proficiency in IPU's working languages: English, French, Spanish. Knowledge of other languages is required on a case-by-case basis.
IPU covers travel and living expenses of experts who undertake missions on its behalf. Much of the consultancy work is done on a pro bono basis.
Candidates are requested to fill out the Experts Data Form and to forward it together with an updated CV to IPU's Technical Cooperation Programme. Only complete application packages will be considered. Due to the numerous applications that IPU receives, it is not in a position to acknowledge all applications. Only persons whose application is under serious consideration will be acknowledged. IPU will maintain accepted applications on its roster for a period of two years, following which experts are requested to send an updated application.
The duly filled Experts Data Form should be sent by post, fax or e-mail to: Inter-Parliamentary Union, 5, chemin du Pommier, Case postale 330, CH-1218 Le Grand-Saconnex/Geneva, Switzerland. Fax: +41 22 919 41 60. E-mail:
