- Age: over 25 years old
- Full possession of civil and political rights
- Birth or residence in an electoral district; registration on the corresponding electoral roll
- Knowledge of how to read and write properly
- Knowledge of how to interpret the Basic Law
- Declaration as a candidate in accordance with the Electoral Law
Incompatibilities - The Presidents and Justices of the Supreme Court and the Courts of Appeal
- The President and Judges of the Constitutional Court
- The Attorney General of the Republic, practising judges and magistrates
- Secretaries general, directors general, deputy directors, inspectors general, regional, provincial and district ministry delegates
- Heads of diplomatic missions and consular posts, as well as officials serving at representations to other States or international organizations
- Serving members of the armed forces and state security services
- Provincial governors, delegates of the Government and their deputies
- Presidents, members and secretaries of electoral boards and the census organization, as well as polling station staff
- Public sector employees, and directors and employees of public joint ventures
- People who are voluntarily dependent on or involved in intelligence activity for a foreign state
- University rectors, their deputies, university directors and deans of faculties
- Presidential advisers
- Presidents and other members of the Government, the Council for Economic and Social Development, the Court of Auditors and the Ombudsman and his/her deputies
Candidacy requirements Candidacy by registered political parties or electoral coalition.
No party or electoral coalition may submit more than one list of candidates in an electoral district for the same election.
